Ashigaru data sheet by PenUser Ashigaru data sheet by PenUser
Hello!

Just had a thought about drawing this type of data sheet thing again, been a while since I made something similar. So here you go: The "Ashigaru" combat armor as presented by Hemera.

I initially drew the picture on the left to my sketchbook and thought it was neat so I made the two other ones to accompany it. The choice of name is pretty obvious, I thought of something japanese-related since the pauldrons are sort of like those used in the O-Yoroi armor, but that name was somewhat odd so I went with ashigaru.

Anyway, Enjoy. :)

This armor is really well done, sir. Bravo!

You didn't fall into the fatalistic trap of 'boob' armor, either.

Thank you! :)

I try to avoid any such designs, they just lack any proper logic... just think of the chafing! Too uncomfortable, I'd say. :D

Only thing I would change given what you have stated here on your data sheet is some kind of camera on the plasma weapon. Since you have the neural awareness system, it would make sense to use it with a weapon that seems to have no kind of sights for aiming. Other than that, it seems very well thought out and has great attention to detail.

Yeah, that just kind of slipped my mind, I guess. Maybe the helmet is so high tech that it just tells you where it's pointing like in a FPS game with the crosshairs...? :D

Well anyway, I suppose there's an option to attach one for the not-so-cyborg. Thanks! :)

Very cool armor design, it looks like a truly combat-ready system.
It's nice to see some female sci-fi armor without gratuitous cleavage for once.

Thanks!

Yeah, practicality is key when drawing something like this(or at least the illusion of it).  :D

That's one of the things I loathe in scifi- a design that is simply poor fanservice, like any armor with a "cup" for each breast. Take Mass Effect for example. The design is impractical, harder to manufacture, probably offers less protection in most cases and is most certainly uncomfortable.

Glad to see someone with practical ideas about armor design. It's very true that armor externally sculpted to the female form would have reduced physical protection value, as it would simply be creating more surface area to cover with an equal amount of armor density. Your design, on the other hand, features nice monolithic plates which would seem to provide an ideal armor density vs. surface area ratio.
As I'm fond of saying, sex appeal is not combat effective.

I want to see that fight that led to engineers designing that laser protection. Burn their arses with laser!

You're speaking of the Great battle of Arse Creek during the corporate wars(2379-2462) wherethe Ares Enterprises fielded the first man-portable battle-lasers. Needless  to say, many asses were burned.

... anyway- that pointer was meant as a general point about the suit, but I couldn't find a better spot for the text box... ^^;
