"God wills it... and that god is Ares, the god of war."

- Arielle Zaitseva, Ares Enterprises CEO, 2548.

Ares Enterprises landing troops begin their descent to a highly industrialized rebelling colony after a round of orbital bombardment from the AISC Deepspace Horizon(seen in the background with escort). The resistance is annihilated within hours...

Right, I'm back with a proper piece today! :D I actually worked on this the whole damn day, so I hope you guys like it! I haven't got a clue on how the effects turned out, but I hope that the black shadowing did the trick I wanted it to have. Even so, I think I made a bit of a mess with the whole pic... :/

As for the music I was listening when doing this- I got the soundtrack to "Trinity and Beyond" playing for me, and especially the track "the hood device" hit me. I think it fits well with the picture- link to youtube:

And as always, this is somewhat of a backstory pic for my comic, although it won't be relevant for some time in terms of the plot, but you can read the comic here:

Original by micron markers, 3 x A3 and colors in Photoshop CS3.

Enjoy! :)

Lots of really cool details here, and the ships look, to my amateur mind, like something workable. Great job!

I try to make them look like something that might be able to work, or so that they look "familiar" or sort of contemporary in their technology- even if they wouldn't be technologically feasible in real life.

Thanks! :)

Yeah, it's pretty close to the "Valkyrie shuttle" they had in that movie. I liked the design, so I made something similar. Not as cool as in the movie, but similar that fit my purposes in the pic... originally I was thinking about drawing the one below in this pic:

But I decided that the Avatar-like shuttle was better for this pic because it had a human-size analogue for scale in the cockpit, makes the sizes of the crafts more evident.

Thanks! :)

That shuttle looks pretty reminiscent of the Avatar shuttle. Intentional references?

Pretty much. The designs in Avatar were really top class, so I wanted to make something similar- the shuttle I drew is less chubby and pointier than the one in the movie, but for some of the shapes(like the wingtips, nose, landing gear bays partly) are pretty much the same.

Thanks! :)

Good thing the scale looked as it should've! That was the point of the pic for the crafts to actually look like they're, well, massive.

Thanks! :)

No problem! And yes, I'd say 'mission accomplished' as far as getting a sense of massive scale goes. :D

Not at all- when you've got a whole planet to invade, it's better to play it safe and just crush them in one fell swoop. :D

Besides, they're not even using the heaviest weapons here...

Thanks! :)

Yep, I made a infographic sketch on it last year actually:

[link]

So, basically it has one whopping huge relativistic mass driver(railgun) along it's axis that packs enough punch to make life unsustainable on a planet, and a bunch of smaller ones(some axial as well) to support an invasion force. So basically it's a carrier/fire-support vessel and an invasion fleet in one. Also it's the capital ship for the corporation, unsurprisingly.
